So, what do we know about this Rob Galpin, guitar virtuoso from Maryland? Well, he obviously spent some time learning his craft as is evident here from the guitar solo on “24/7”, but before that, he was a respected force on the DC/Maryland/Virginia club circuit in the mid to late 80’s as the guitarist and lead vocalist for the creatively, cutting-edge band GASTEM. After years of opening the stage for their hometown heroes KIX, it’s no wonder that vocalist Steve Whiteman tapped him as the guitarist for his band FUNNY MONEY in October of 2003. After applying his talents to the former FM catalog and contributing huge amounts to their last release, Stick It! (mixed by DOKKEN/WARRANT/WINGER producer [b]Beau Hill), Rob decided to take a little time off to be with his family and enjoy a normal life. However, the normalcy was cut short by the insistence of fans and his musician friends to put forth a solo effort. After agreeing to do just that in a unique, track-by-track release via Itunes, Amazon MP3, ShockHound, Limewire Pro, Napster, Rhapsody and Emusic, Rob released this track to whet our appetites for the forthcoming montage of Rock-N-Roll brilliance entitled, Home Away From Home.

Accompanied by N.C. singer/songwriter Rob Alford on rhythm guitar and bass, Rob has crafted a tune in “24/7” that deserves to be added to the Lennon/McCartney textbook for style alone. The melodies of many different textures and every verse builds to a point where the chorus just sends the listener through the stratosphere as it makes its way around the bend. One extremely effective trick that Galpin uses in his vocal delivery is a very haunting, goodbye-like improvisation at the very end that makes this scribe literally feel the hair on the back of his neck stand at attention long after the song has faded to its glorious conclusion. This track has found a way to transcend a proven, old-school formula into a very fresh delivery of “newness” that would have bands like CHEAP TRICK, ENUF’Z’NUFF and U2 chomping at the bit to use it as a vehicle for their current sets! Sometimes a virtual unknown to the business can create enough lightening in a bottle and cause ripples in the very fabric of Rock-N-Roll history. GALPIN’s “24/7” does this in spades!!! Head over to (Amazon MP3 Downloads) to check it out for yourself!!! Without question, this one comes Very, Very Highly Recommended!!!
