 With all the hype surrounding female-fronted Hard Rock Bands like HALESTORM, JAM PAIN SOCIETY and others, it’s hard to differentiate between what’s awesome and original and what’s just a sloppy copy-cat of the previously mentioned. One thing I can tell you from my first listen to HYDROVIBE’s Nothing Left To Lose is that they are the REAL DEAL and a complete standout. Vocalist Heather St. Marie is a deadringer for a Modern Janis Joplin with more balls to her voice than most male singers trying for the same sound! This could easily be a major label debut for the band, but they’ve chosen to go the indie route which is quite admirable. With recording and production quality being well-above the norm of today’s majors, this 15-track bullet is full of catchy and memorable tunes that don’t concentrate on overcomplicating a “straight-to-the-gut” attack with silly preludes and hokey tempo changes. One listen to the opening track, “Fifteen Minutes” with its blistering guitar-driven attack and the hooks are already in your throat. Couple that with the melodic firestorm brought on by “Suture” and the sexy melodrama of “Evil Side” and that alone is reason to jump on the HYDROVIBE train, but if you need more coaxing, there’s a buttload of others that will tip their hat to your Rockin’ Rambo ways. Filled with guitar virtuosity that hasn’t been heard in today’s Active Rock artists to date, this is one to definitely put them on the radar for major label success very soon.
