 I’ve been a staunch supporter of Guitarist/Songwriter Rich Ward since his earliest days with STUCK MOJO so reviewing this, the 4th FOZZY album, was a real pleasure! Easily the best album the band has done, Chasing The Grail is filled with heavy riffage and killer technical playing from all involved, which, these days includes Ward on Guitar and Back-up Vocals, WWE Wrestling Pro Chris Jerricho on Lead Vocals, Sean Delson on Bass and Frank Fontsere on Drums. Now, for those who haven’t followed the FOZZY train…the name Chris Jerricho will probably throw you for a loop and raise many questions, the first of which is; “Is He Good?”. I assure you, one listen to Chasing The Grail will answer that question in the affirmative position for sure! Chris’ vocals are so much better than they ever have been, and I’m proud to say, I was a fan of his from the very beginning of the FOZZY years dating back to the early 2000’s. It’s good to hear him develop into such a great vocalist over the years.
Now to the music; this has to be the heaviest slab of plastic they’ve ever delivered, thanks to Ward’s involvement in the production and just being pissed off enough at the world and politics, etc. to write such infectious and devastating licks. The first four tracks could easily have been enough for them to use as benchmarks to line with lackluster filler, but they kept going and just wrote themselves an album filled with incredible music. There’s not one bad song on the album, but I warn you, don’t go check out 30-second clips on Itunes and Amazon to make up your mind. These are complete works that can’t be relayed in a short clip…the ideas just get totally lost and some of the melodic brilliance vanishes when you try to dissect it.
