Roadrunner Records Rating: 10 Out Of 10 Reviewed by: Bam-Bam
Easily my favorite band from the Cock-Rock era, RATT returns in 2010 with the timemachine locked right into 1986, warpspeed! Fans will immediately rank this one as their favorite album since Invasion Of Your Privacy easily. Blasting off with the killer “Eat Me Up Alive” (one of this scribes faves!), the band is back with Pearcy at the helm bringing all the heat with that snotty, double-tracked vocal attack, Blotzer’s rock-solid groove, and the ultra-amazing 80’s-style guitar wizardry that has always belonged to Mr. Warren DeMartini, in my humble opinion. Batting second is the album’s first single, “Best Of Me”, which eerily sounds like a nod to (or even a blatant lift from) the SLEEZE BEEZ with a “Panama”-infused, VAN HALEN pinwheel in the middle for good measure. While I love this song, my only complaint is why Pearcy let a three-year old write the lyrics! (“She’s the best woman in the wild, wild west”??? Are you fucking kidding me?) The album weaves through some pretty sharp turns from here on, taking on a definite high-point during “Lost Weekend”, which self-plagiarizes their own “Lack Of Communication” for the main riff, but who cares since that was always one of the coolest licks off of Out Of The Cellar. Probably the only weak moment on the whole outing is the slower tempo, “Take Me Home”, but musically it’s still very solid and has some great parts to it, so I can’t really deduct a full point for the fact that Pearcy might have just felt a little mela-romantic that day.
Overall, the best 80’s comeback album I’ve ever heard! High marks for keeping it real and not changing one damned thing about their sound, writing or production. All is still well, as far as sound is concerned, in the RATT camp and you can hear it for yourself on April 20th or pre-order by clicking (HERE) now. VERY, VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!
