 As per usual, my buddy James “Rock-N-Roll Forever” Kottak (drummer/back-up vocals) is kicking T-Total ass again on another Scorps album and even though they are calling for this to be their last…I seriously doubt that will stick when fans get a load of Sting In The Tail! Aside from the fact that the drums sound AMAZING on this record, not only due to James’ playing, but the killer production provided…the whole band sounds as if they’re back in their heyday, spouting out chops galore and vocals that can still peel 40-year old paint off of galvanized metal walls! “Raised On Rock” is the first single and lead-off track on the album, and while it harkens back to the BON JOVI style voicebox used in “Living On A Prayer” throughout, it’s still undeniably SCORPIONS with Klause’s signature vocals. Next up it’s the title track and this one is a barnstormer for sure, probably one of my favorites on the album. Luckily, for us, almost the whole album rocks along the same way that their classic Blackout did years earlier. There are, believe it or not, four tracks that slow down the pace, the sultry “The Good Die Young” and the beautifully placed “Lorelei” being the best of the bunch, but it’s really nothing to worry about for those who like their rock faster paced and heavy because all four tracks are solid and fit perfectly on the record in a very Rock-N-Roll way, making plenty of room for two highlights, “Turn You On” and “Spirit Of Rock”.
Easily the best Scorps record since the very late 70’s/early 80’s when we all had Animal Magnetism and Blackout on the brain. Surely bound to make old-school fans happy and gain them a few new ones along the way. Kudos to Klause for his always-stellar vocals, Matthias for some of his most incredible guitar playing ever, and to the killer James Kottak for a drum performance to always be proud of!
