I still think the best part of my job is getting to hear new bands, some at the very beginning of their careers where everything is about the music and there’s no bullshit barometer to get in the way of what’s really their art. After reviewing doublethink’s 2009 E.P. last year, I knew it wouldn’t be the last time I heard the guys! Now, with what can be considered a full-length, 7-track album; Dawn: Je Ne Crois, the guys are back as I expected for a knock at 2010’s door. While I seem to remember the production being a tad better on their last effort, the songs hold a lot more weight this time around. “A Beautiful Sound”, “Mother’s Son” and “Darkness” all boast interesting arrangements and memorable verses that tie very moody and melancholy pieces together in a framework that reminds me very much of something we’d hear in SIMPLY RED’s early catalog. Interestingly enough, the singer has a wacky Simon LeBon similarity that adds more to my personal enjoyment of the entire album, but I imagine some might consider this to be a negative. For what it’s worth, it all works, and that’s why I dig this band. They proudly wear their influences on their sleeves and make good music without caring if it fits today’s idea of popular or not. While “Dangerous Days” is my favorite of the bunch, every track is interesting and the band is in good form with chops-a-plenty oozing from every note.

Here’s looking forward to their next release that I know will ultimately happen, and I certainly look forward to seeing them live when they hit my area. Hop over to their MySpace site by clicking (HERE) and check them out for yourself. A great band with many more drops of greatness to come! Highly Recommended!!!
